About the Futures Scheme

The scheme has been set up to mentor and help up-and-coming jazz musicians from the region as they develop their career as jazz musicians.

The scheme offers practical mentoring as well as a commission to write and record some new music for their chosen ensemble.

The scheme starts with a commission to write new tunes. The musicians chose a personal mentor, rehearse their band and then spend two days recording their music. They then helped to play dates around the regions network of jazz promoters.

Leeds College of Music is a partner in the project.

Successful applicants for FUTURES2 (2010-11) will need to be available on 12/13 October for the induction day and first mentoring session.

Depending on the availability of funding it is hoped to run a second year where the musicians offered further mentoring which will include applying to Jazz Services to undertake a national tour. Leeds College of Music are supporting the project.
