It is with a sad heart that I have to report the passing Ernest Gill, 31st December 2011. Born in Bradford, lived in Bradford, Scotland and Leeds, Ernie was a very popular figure in the West Yorkshire Jazz scene.
For those lucky enough to have known Ernie for any amount of time, it will take some time to come to terms with the loss.
I am proud to say Ernie was my friend, a nicer man I have not known.
I was deeply saddened to hear the bad news of Ernest Gills passing, he will be missed a great deal by everybody who was ever involved in the local Jazz scene. As one of the few non celebrity but truly enthusiastic and knowledgeable Jazz aficionados he will leave many magic memories, but ironically a sad space in the lives of those who really knew him. Ernie was a great help in furthering the careers of many local singers and musicians by tirelessly burning demo discs for them on his computer, and of course not forgetting all the write ups they would get in the comprehensive content of his Website (Jazz Crazy. COM), I really hope it can be continued as a legacy to Ernie. On a personal note I will always remember and be grateful for the wealth of Jazz and IT expertise he shared with myself and my Jazz Buddy Philip Ramsden. RIP Ernie. Sincerely Richard (Mac) McKenna.
