Voluntary Promoter Network grows!

This spring saw the launch of our new open application funding scheme for Voluntary Promoters in the Yorkshire Humberside region. In 2006/07 the existing network of promoters receiving funding from JAZZYORKSHIRE will nearly double in size to eleven organisations.

Robert Gibson, Chair of JAZZYORKSHIRE says "It's thanks to the work of voluntary promoters that our region derives it’s deserved reputation for high quality jazz gigs. So it's an exciting step forwards for our jazz scene to help support some new promoters".

The new members are Grimsby Jazz, Howdenshire Live Arts, Leeds Improvising Musicians Association (LIMA). Two further clubs 'The Spin Off' (Leeds) and North Leeds Jazz will be receiving the new £500 Start-up grant.

The full list of successful applications is as follows; Leeds Jazz £5,000, Wakefield Jazz £5,000, Sheffield Jazz £5,000, Huddersfield Jazz £2,000, Hull Jazz £2,000, Scarborough Jazz £2,000, Grimsby Jazz £2,000, Howden Live £2,000, LIMA £2,000, The Spin Off £500, North Leeds Jazz £500. To be eligable for the scheme a voluntary promoter has to be willing to work in partnership with JAZZYORKSHIRE to help achieve its aims. A five point mission statement of these aims can be found here (ebulletin feb 2006).

Jazz Orchestra Showcase

Their debut CD has an excellent review in Jazzwise Magazine May 2006. With JAZZYORKSHIRE's support the band will be appearing at the Scarborough Jazz Festival in September.
"The orchestra whips up an absolute storm...it's a white knuckle ride of burning solos, careering textures and propulsive energy...a startlingly good debut." Peter Quinn, Jazzwise Magazine.

Promoters Choice - Jazz Services

Promoters have until the end of June to nominate a band from our region for Jazz Services 'Promoters Choice' Scheme. Of the total number of bands put forward, three will be showcased at the London Jazz Festival in November and a major festival outside of London in the summer. They will also undertake a national tour under the Jazz Services Touring Support Scheme.

This is a wonderful opportunity to possibly help some of the excellent bands from our region take a step upwards in their performing career. The main criteria are that it will be a band that the promoter has booked or heard within last 12 months.
