Jonathan Davis (LCoM) wins Yamaha Scholarship Award 2012

"On Thursday 6 July 2012 I was very proud to attended the Yamaha Jazz Scholarship award ceremony where Jonathan Davis (drums) of LCoM picked up his prize. Jonathan is a fantastic musician and his extraordinary level of development is a testament to the teaching staff at LCoM (Leeds College of Music), in particularly Dave Walsh. Over the last four years Alex Munk, Andrew Linham, Riley Stone-Lonergan (all from LCoM) have been awarded the prestigious award. The event was held at the House of Commons and the awards were presented by jazz fm D.J. Helen Mayhew, after which the award winners performed a set of originals and standards. The group sounded excellent. It was particularly nice to hear former Yorkshire based musicians Matt Robinson and Ben Mallinder who lots of people will remember from their pre-London days. They're playing brilliantly!" Jamil Sheriff

• Ben Mallinder, tenor saxophone Trinity Laban . 

The prize consists of: 

• £1000
• The chance to record tracks on the ‘The Yamaha New Jazz Sessions 2012’ promotional CD, sponsored by Yamaha Music Europe GmbH (UK),the cover-mount on Jazzwise magazine’s Xmas and New Year double issue
• The CD Launch gig at the 606 Jazz Club on 5th December
